Onit Dictate
Terms of Service
TL;DR: Onit Dictate is a free, local voice dictation app for Mac. Your voice never leaves your device. You can use it without an account. Don’t misuse it, don’t reverse-engineer it, and don’t use it for anything illegal. We may update these terms or our pricing with notice. That’s the gist.

1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. By using Onit Dictate, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.
2. Account Registration
An account is not required to use Onit Dictate. If you choose to create one, you agree to provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information and to keep it current. You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
3. License & Permitted Use
Onit grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use the Services for personal or internal business purposes, subject to these Terms.
You agree not to:
Use the Services for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
Modify, adapt, hack, or reverse engineer the Services or any part thereof.
Interfere with or disrupt the integrity, performance, or availability of the Services.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Services or any related systems or networks.
Use the Services in any way that violates the rights of others.
4. How Onit Dictate Works
Onit Dictate processes all voice transcription and AI-powered cleanup entirely on your Mac using local models. Your audio and transcript content are never transmitted to Onit’s servers.
When you use Onit Dictate:
All voice processing happens on-device. No audio is uploaded anywhere.
Transcript history is stored locally on your device and under your full control.
No internet connection is required for core dictation or Smart Cleanup features.
5. User Content
You may input or generate text while using Onit Dictate (“User Content”). Because the Services operate locally on your device, Onit does not transmit, store, or retain any User Content on its own servers.
You retain full ownership of all User Content you create using Onit Dictate. By using the Services, you do not grant Onit any license to your User Content beyond what is necessary to operate the software on your device.
6. Pricing & Free Access
Onit Dictate is currently free to use. Because the Services run entirely on your device, there are no server costs to pass on to you.
We reserve the right to introduce pricing or change the availability of free access in the future. If we do, we will provide reasonable advance notice through the app, our website, or by email (if you have an account) before any such changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after notice of a pricing change constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
7. Third-Party Services
If you enable optional features that integrate with third-party services, your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. Onit is not responsible for the practices of any third-party providers.
8. Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to the Services — including all related intellectual property rights — are and will remain the exclusive property of Onit and its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights to use Onit’s trademarks, logos, or other brand features without our prior written consent.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, with or without cause or notice, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Services will immediately cease.
Because Onit Dictate operates locally, termination does not affect any content stored on your own device.
10. Disclaimers
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Onit does not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
Transcription accuracy is dependent on your device hardware, microphone quality, and ambient conditions. Onit makes no guarantee regarding the accuracy of transcriptions or AI-generated corrections.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Onit shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Services, even if Onit has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in San Francisco, California.
13. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will post any changes on this page, and the revised version will be effective when posted. For material changes, we will provide additional notice through the app or by email (if you have an account). Your continued use of the Services after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
